Book Review: The Great Gatsby

Where to begin? (Again, this review will be spoiler-free, in case you were worried!) I wish I could sit here and rave and tell you how much I adored this book, as I expected to, but I just… didn’t. Sure, Fitzgerald is a masterful writer, there’s no doubt about that, but I just didn’t find myself enthralled by this book.

I’m the sort of person who won’t love a book unless I love a character, and I just didn’t find a single character that I was emotionally invested in, and therefore I simply didn’t care about what happened to them, plot wise. While well-written, and the language simple to understand, I did find myself bored a lot of the time. I guess it just didn’t grab me. I did not feel a single emotion throughout the entire novel. Oh well. At least I’ve read it and can say that I have. It’s such a staple of classic literature.

But I can say that I am even more excited for Baz Luhrmann’s film next year, now that I’ve read it. I think Carey Mulligan as Daisy and Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby are just perfect. Though I could completely also see Tom Hiddleston as a great Gatsby, haha. Pun intended. x
