All About My Blogging Camera

image

As some of you might know from my twittah, I recently decided to make the jump from my dinky little iPhone camera to the real deal.

Don’t get me wrong. The iPhone camera is pretty great, and has served me well thus far. It can take some gorgeous photos! But it does have its limits. One of the major limitations that I’ve struggled with is low light photography. In low lighting, iPhone photos come out super grainy and basically unusable (as far as using them for this blog goes). Of course, there’s the flash option, but not only is that very conspicuous when I’m out & about, but it also flattens the image and tends to wash out the subject of the photo.

But unfortunately, fancy cameras don’t come cheap, and for this reason I’ve put off buying one for quite some time. Three major factors caused me to give in and finally buy a good camera.

  1. This blog! As I continue to take blogging more seriously, and the blog grows, I want to put out great content for you guys. And part of great content is beautiful photography!
  2. Having good raw photos will save me a bunch of time editing them. You would be amazed at how many hours I lose just trying to get iPhone photos to look the way they actually appeared in real life!
  3. I’m in my twenties. Probably the best years of my life. (Or at least, that’s what everyone keeps telling me.) A lot of exciting things are happening, and I want to document them! It’s amazing how quickly we forget things, but photos allow us to look back and remember all the wonderful times we’ve had.

(That was a very long preamble to the actual point of this post, sorry! I just felt like I needed to explain my thinking here.)

So why the Lumix? Well, I wanted a camera that could take stunning photos, obviously. But I also wanted one I could easily carry around with me places. If I’m going out for the evening, I’m not likely to haul a big huge camera bag with me. It just wouldn’t go with the outfit, you know?

I ended up choosing the Panasonic Lumix GF5 because one of my favorite bloggers, Rosie from The Londoner, uses this exact camera, and her photos are simply gorgeous. (Also I kind of want to steal her life. Shhh, don’t tell her.) Plus, she noted that it takes especially great low-light photos and is very small and portable. Right up my alley!

This may be my very last blog post you’ll see using iPhone photos! Isn’t that exciting?

And did I mention she also shoots videos?

Here she is! (Cue Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely”)

Here’s the Amazon link to where I bought it – you can find out more about tech specs & stuff over there.

And here’s one of my hands holding her so you can see her size. She’s teeny!

I can’t wait to take her out for a spin. You can expect better quality photos to come! :) xx
